The Race Track: only the best make it here...

How will you handicap the six race horses?

The favorites should come in and pay modestly but the "long shots" are risky, incredibly exciting and pay big.

Your bets will tell all!

Overview

LIGHTNING, THUNDER, BIG RED, REBEL, CONTAGIOUS, and LEADBOTTOM are the 6 horses racing at the RACE TRACK. Each horse has a different number of playing squares on the board which affect their odds of winning a race, payoff amounts, purchase and resale prices. LIGHTNING is the track favorite because he has 5 playing squares, while LEADBOTTOM is the long shot or dark horse because he has only 1. Each horse begins a race at the starting line and advances down the color coded track according to the instructions it receives from its playing squares e.g. ADVANCE THUNDER 4 OR 6 OR 8. There are four specialty squares that create excitement because any horse from the "favorite" to the "long shot" can win a race!

Betting windows

Each horse has a betting window where $200,000 WIN, PLACE, and SHOW bets are made. These windows display the payoff amount to each bettor should that bet win e.g. THUNDER will pay $1,200,000 to WIN, $600,000 to PLACE and $400,000 to SHOW. Payoff amounts differ between the horses because their total number of playing squares differ and this affects their overall odds of winning a race. There is no limit on either the number of bets or the number of players that can place bets in a horse's betting window.

How to place a bet

A bet is made when a player pays the bank the amount of the bet and then places their colored disk on WIN, PLACE, or SHOW in that horse's betting window. Each disk represents one $200,000 bet. A player can have multiple bets at the same time e.g. $600,000 to WIN on THUNDER, $400,000 to PLACE on BIG RED, and $200,000 to SHOW on REBEL.

How the horses move down the race track

Each horse begins a race at the starting line and advances down the color coded track according to the instructions it receives from its playing squares e.g. ADVANCE THUNDER 4 OR 6 OR 8. The light and dark color shading of each horse's racing lane represents moves of 1. The final decision on how far to advance a horse remains with the player who landed on the square. If a horse cannot advance because it has already crossed the FINISH line, the remaining horses are to advance 4 or up to the FINISH line whichever comes first. A horse must advance a total of 15 spaces to cross the FINISH line.

Buying horses

You can also make money by owning the horse that comes in first, second, or third, Horse owners receive their payoff money after each horse crosses the finish line. There is no limit on the number of horses a player can own.
